METHODS this is a mini review with search in the following databases Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, National Library of Medicine and Scopus. Articles were surveyed from July 2018 to February 2019 using the following descriptors and Boolean operators "financial toxicity" OR "financial difficulties" AND "cancer" AND "chemotherapy". RESULTS the search totaled 64 articles. After exclusion of duplicates that did not meet the inclusion criteria, the final sample was composed of five articles published in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018. Financial difficulty caused by cancer treatment and its impact on quality of life was a frequent expression used in the studies. CONCLUSION studies show that financial toxicity damages the quality of life of patients. A scarcity of studies on the subject was also observed, possibly because this is a new concept.Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common cancer of endocrine system. This article discuss the multi-facet role of lncRNA in thyroid cancer biology..OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to perform a systematic review of research articles related to cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), the bile duct cancer in Southeast Asian (SEA) countries published during 2010-2015 including analysis of inappropriate use/misuse of statistics. METHODS Research articles were retrieved from the PubMed database using different 'keywords' for seven research disciplines/categories in biomedical sciences (medicine/physiology, epidemiology, immunology, pharmacology and toxicology, diagnosis/diagnostics, drug resistance, and biochemistry). RESULTS A total of 353 articles were finally included in the analysis based on the pre-defined eligibility criteria. Most were articles of which the studies were conducted in Thailand (335 articles, 94.90%). Disease diagnosis/diagnostics (n=266, 75.35%), biochemistry (n =223, 63.17%), and pharmacology and toxicology (n =218, 61.76%) were the three main research disciplines/categories for CAA conducted in SEA countries during 2010-2015. Thailand was the country which most published CCA-related research articles in all disciplines/categories. Drug resistance was the research category that most applied both descriptive and inferential statistics (100%). The student's t-test was the most applied test (35.13%). Inappropriate use/misuse of statistics in all types was highest in diagnosis/diagnostics (73.59%) and pharmacology and toxicology (73.06%) research disciplines/categories and was lowest in medicine/pathophysiology (0.26%). Inappropriate use/misuse in almost all types (seven types) was found in the diagnosis/diagnostics category. CONCLUSION Results of the systematic analysis of CCA-related research articles published from the ten SEA countries during 2010-2015 reveal high rates of inappropriate use/misuse of statistics. The readers should be aware of the reliability of the articles and the possibility of wrong interpretation and conclusion of these articles.Background/Aims A multifunctional snare SOUTEN has a sharp tip at the top of the snare loop that enables incision of the mucosa, dissection of the submucosal layer, and snaring of lesion. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of complete endoscopic resection of colorectal neoplasia using SOUTEN. Methods We analyzed the rates of gross en bloc resection and complete resections of 108 consecutive tumors from 69 patients resected by precutting endoscopic mucosal resection (precutting), hybrid endoscopic submucosal dissection (hybrid), or conventional endoscopic submucosal dissection (conventional) using SOUTEN. Results Out of the 108 tumors, 50 were resected by precutting, 27 were resected by hybrid after attempting precutting, and the remaining 31 were resected by conventional after attempting precutting and hybrid resections. The median tumor sizes were 14.5 mm for precutting, 16.4 mm for hybrid, and 21.1 mm for conventional. The success rate of gross en bloc resection and histological complete resection were 100% and 94.0% for precutting, 96.4% and 96.4% for hybrid, and 100% and 100% for conventional method, respectively. No procedure-related complication occurred. Conclusions By using SOUTEN, precutting and hybrid were successfully performed on 10-30 mm tumors with a shorter procedure time than conventional without major complications.MET alterations may provide a potential biomarker to evaluate patients who will benefit from treatment with MET inhibitors. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to investigate the utility of a liquid biopsy-based strategy to assess MET alterations in cancer patients. We analyzed MET amplification in circulating free DNA (cfDNA) from 174 patients with cancer and 49 healthy controls and demonstrated the accuracy of the analysis to detect its alteration in patients. Importantly, a significant correlation between cfDNA concentration and MET copy number (CN) in cancer patients (r = 0.57, p less then 10-10) was determined.
