Vitamin D deficiency is now a well-recognized public health problem affecting almost every second person throughout the world. Recent evidence from many population-based studies has indicated that a poor vitamin D status is a predictor of future strokes.
We reviewed recent studies on 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and symptomatic ischemic stroke. A graded increase in the risk of symptomatic ischemic stroke with decreasing levels of plasma 25(OH)D has been found in most of the studies. Vitamin D also has a role in the poststroke period where its deficiency may hinder the rehabilitation process.
After reviewing current literature on the subject, we conclude that there are some data to suggest the role of vitamin D in patients with stroke but it cannot be concluded as a risk factor for stroke. Larger population-based studies are needed to confirm the causative role of vitamin D in stroke.

The rapidly escalating contagion is straining our public health system, which is already under pressure due to a shortage of infrastructure and inadequate workforce. Neuro rehabilitation services that are still in its infancy in our country have been significantly interrupted in the last six months. An expert group from Indian Federation of Neurorehabilitation (IFNR) have formulated the guidelines and consensus recommendations for Neurologists, Physiatrists, and Therapists managing neurological disabilities during COVID 19. The aim of this consensus paper is to sensitize the clinicians and therapists about maintaining the continuum of care and rehabilitation needs of Covid patients as well as non Covid patients with neurological disorders during the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common progressive neuro-degenerative disorder. Research in PD is gradually increasing in India due to increased clinical cases, which could double by 2030 worldwide. Although its prevalence is low in India as compared to other countries, the total burden is much higher due to the large population size. PD is progressively debilitating, with pronounced motor and nonmotor symptoms (NMSs) that severely affect the quality of life (QoL) of patients and their caregivers. The progressive nature of the disease lays great emphasis on doctors to focus on the patients' QoL. As a consequence, Health-related QoL (HRQoL) has gradually become one of the main indicators for assessing health-related outcome. There is a growing need to pay attention to the NMSs and a pressing need to look at the QoL of Indian patients with PD through a culture and value specific lens. Research into the holistic QoL assessment with emphasis on psychological domains may allow for the early evaluation and intervention of depressive and cognitive symptoms in PD. This could result into increased productivity, reduced morbidity, and healthcare cost, which would in turn result into better QoL of Indian PD patients. The COVID-19 pandemic is threatening the world and our country today. Minimally invasive surgery was initially thought to have a higher risk of spreading the disease through aerosolisation of viral particles through the pneumoperitoneum. This article outlines the various protective measures taken for minimally invasive surgery to decrease the aerosol spread at a Gynecologic Oncology unit during the COVID pandemic period. Precautions taken during anesthesia, trocar insertion, surgery and special precautions for smoke evacuation with viral filters are outlined. The legume plant alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a widely cultivated perennial forage due to its high protein content, palatability, and strong adaptability to diverse agro-ecological zones. Alfalfa is a self-incompatible cross-pollinated autotetraploid species with tetrasomic inheritance. Therefore, maintaining excellent traits through seed reproduction is a prime challenge in alfalfa. However, the cutting propagation technology could enable consistent multiplication of quality plants that are genetically identical to the parent plant. The current study aimed to develop a simple, cost-effective, reproducible, and efficient hydroponic cutting method to preserve alfalfa plants and for molecular research. In this study, alfalfa landrace 'Wudi' was grown in hydroponics for 30 days and used as source material for cuttings. The top, middle and bottom sections of its stem were used as cuttings. The rooting rate, root length, and stem height of the different stem sections were compared to determine the best segment for alfalfa propagation in four nutrient treatments (HM, HM + 1/500H, HM + 1/1000H and d HM + 1/2000H). see more After 21 days of culture, the rooting rates of all the three stem types under four cutting nutrient solutions were above 78%. The rooting rate of the middle and bottom parts in HM + 1/1000 H and HM + 1/2000 H nutrient solutions reached more than 93%, with a higher health survey score (> 4.70). In conclusion, this study developed a de novo cutting propagation method that can be used to conserve and propagate germplasm in breeding programs and research. This method is a new report on the cutting propagation of alfalfa by hydroponics, which could supplement the existing cutting propagation methods.Polyamine levels are controlled by biosynthesis, intra- and inter-cellular flux by the respective transporters, and catabolism. The catabolism is catalyzed by two groups of enzymes. One is copper-containing amine oxidases and the other is polyamine oxidases (PAOs). In Oryza sativa, seven PAO genes exist and they are termed as OsPAO1 to OsPAO7. However, their physiological function has not been elucidated yet. Here, we examined the expressional changes of seven OsPAO genes upon abiotic and oxidative stress, phytohormone, and exogenous polyamines application. The transcript of extracellular polyamine oxidase OsPAO2 and OsPAO6 are strongly induced upon wounding, drought, salinity, oxidative stress (H2O2), and exogenous application of jasmonic acid, spermidine, spermine, thermospermine and negatively regulated upon indole acetic acid, isopentenyl adenine (iPT), gibberellic acid (GA), abscisic acid; OsPAO7 is to iPT, GA and all polyamines; OsPAO4 and OsPAO5 are mildly responsive to heat, cold, oxidative stress. These results suggest that polyamine oxidase encoding extracellular enzyme may play a pivotal role during exogenous stimulus to protect the plant cell.
