This article investigates the intimate partner violence among caregivers and persons with Parkinson's disease (PD). We used qualitative methods to investigate whether the presence of violence was related to the type of couple relationship before the disease onset. We used a survey, in-depth interviews, and focus groups in 20 dyads of caregivers and patients. Twelve (60%) persons with PD and nine (45%) caregivers reported receiving violence. Considering their relationships previous to disease onset, we describe three typologies of violence in PD (a) disease and history of violence, (b) disease as a buffer of violence, and (c) the burden of disease as an inductor of violence. Previous relationships and the couple's biographical trajectories influence the types of violence and its nature. This study is relevant as it considers time as a crucial factor in both the violence and suffering of PD and its caregiving.Synovitis is a type of aseptic inflammation that occurs within joints or surrounding tendons. No previous reports have described a hypertrophic synovium eroding the tendon sheath and manifesting as synovitis within the flexor tendon. We herein report a case involving a 10-year-old girl who presented to our hospital with a 1-month history of a swollen mass and progressive inability to completely flex her left index finger. The active flexion angle of the proximal interphalangeal joint was limited to 85°. A longitudinal incision of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon was surgically performed. The synovium inside and outside the flexor digitorum profundus tendon was completely removed. After the surgical excision, normal tendon gliding returned without recurrence by the 1-year follow-up. The active flexion angle of the proximal interphalangeal joint improved to 100°. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of synovitis affecting the flexor tendon and leading to limited flexion of a finger. The manifestation of a double ring sign on magnetic resonance imaging is quite characteristic. Early diagnosis and monitoring of the hyperproliferation and invasiveness of the synovial tissue are required. Surgical excision can be a simple and effective tool when necessary.Background Data are limited regarding the relationship between the life-course burden of risk factors and adult cardiac function. This study sought to examine the impact of long-term burden of body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure (BP) levels on changes in adult left ventricular (LV) structure and function in a community-based cohort. Methods and Results The longitudinal study cohort consisted of 1108 adult patients (726 White; 41.9% men; mean age, 48.2 years in the last survey) who had been examined 4 to 16 times for BMI and BP and echocardiographic LV structure and function in adulthood, with a mean follow-up period of 38.8 years. The area under the curve was used as a measure of long-term burden of BMI and BP. Adult LV mass index was significantly associated with childhood and adulthood BMI and systolic BP (SBP), and their area under the curve values (β=0.07-0.37; P less then 0.05 for all). Adult LV ejection fraction was negatively associated with childhood BMI (β=-0.08), adult BMI (β=-0.07) and BMI area under the curve (β=-0.07) (P less then 0.05 for all); the effects of SBP measures were not significant. Adult E/A ratio was negatively associated with adulthood SBP (β=-0.13; P less then 0.01) and total area under the curve of SBP (β=-0.13; P less then 0.01). E/e' ratio was positively associated with BMI and SBP measures. The effects of diastolic BP measures were substantially similar to those of SBP measures. Participants with LV hypertrophy, eccentric hypertrophy, and concentric hypertrophy had significantly lower LV ejection fraction and higher E/e' ratio. This study sought to validate the use of the LUS-score during VV-ECMO against the changes in chest x-ray infiltrates, dynamic lung compliance (CLdyn) and VV-ECMO settings (as standard measures of native lung function and the level of ECMO support) during the ECMO cycle. This prospective cohort study of 10 patients on VV-ECMO compared the LUS score (range 0-36) within 48-h, day 5 and day 10 of commencement of ECMO (or on the day of ECMO decannulation) to dynamic lung compliance, Murray Lung Injury Score and ECMO settings. Seven Male and three Female patients were included (average age 37 years (SD 14.8) and weight 71 Kg (SD 16.9). Median (IQR) duration of ECMO, ICU and hospital length of stay was 7.5 days (5.2-19.0), 12.5 days (8.5-22.7), 19.0 days (12.1- 36.1), respectively. On average, approximately 70% of recovered oocytes are mature, while personalized administration of hCG and/or GnRH agonist trigger and in vitro maturation (IVM) management can further improve the maturation rate. However, even under such conditions, a complete absence of oocyte maturation is still observed sporadically. The probable causes for such maturation-deficient (MD) oocytes - which arrest abnormally at metaphase I (MI) stage - are still under investigation. In the present study, using single-cell transcriptomic RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and differential expression analysis, we showed that gene expression profiles were aberrant, and alternative splicing (AS) patterns were changed in MD oocytes when compared with normally mature (MN) oocytes. Gene ontology (GO) enrichment demonstrated that the differently expressed genes (DEGs) were mostly correlated with pre-mRNA splicing, RNA transportation, RNA processing, and mRNA regulation.
