The importance of VD has been widely documented and its deficiency is a pandemic. Many individuals have difficulty meeting daily VD requirements through food and the sun. The population of Latin America and the Caribbean has diverse ethnics, cultures, in addition to living in different latitudes and altitudes. Therefore, it is important to make a position on VD supplementation, given the different characteristics, ages and serum levels of 25(OH)D.
To assess cyclin D1 and PTEN immunoexpression in benign endometrial polyps (EPs) in asymptomatic postmenopausal women and its correlation with obesity.
This was a cross-sectional study based on data from a sample of 52 patients diagnosed with EP between February 2018 and January 2019. The women included in this study were amenorrheal for at least 1 year and were asymptomatic (no postmenopausal bleeding). Obesity defined by body mass index (BMI) was investigated for correlation with Cyclin-D1 and PTEN gene expression (immunohistochemistry) in glandular and stromal compartments of polyps.
No significant differences among groups were identified in any clinical and epidemiological parameter (age, age of menopause, time since menopause, number of gestations, polyp size, leucocyte count, fasting blood glucose and basic pathologies), except for BMI. More specifically, we examine if (in)equality between partners, experience of controlling or emotionally abusive behavior, and components of the intergenerational transmission of violence significantly affect the risk of lifetime IPV victimization for Guatemalan (N = 5,645) and Honduran women (N = 9,427). We address this by analyzing both the 2014 to 2015 Guatemala Demographic and Health Survey and the 2011 to 2012 Honduras Demographic and Health Survey. Results suggest that equality between partners operates differently across the two nations, which is likely related to social norms in each country. In particular, having more decisional input is a protective factor against IPV victimization for Guatemalan women. Increased educational attainment, however, is a risk factor for IPV victimization among Honduran women. The aim of this study was to investigate the value of measuring cervical length (CL) between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation for predicting the risk of late and post-term pregnancy.
In this prospective longitudinal study, pregnant women whose CL was measured between 24 and 28 weeks were followed until delivery. The CL was adjusted for confounders and the results are presented using odds ratio and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC).
A total of 874 women met the inclusion criteria. The median value of CL measured between 24 and 28 weeks was 34.0 mm (30.0-38.0 25%, 75% interquartile range). The risk of late and post-term pregnancy was 5.8 times higher in pregnant women with a CL above 35 mm between the 24 and 28 weeks of gestation (95% CI 2.65-12.94 adjusted OR = 5.8,
< .001). For pregnancies exceeding the 38th week, it was observed that the duration of the gestation increases as CL values increase.

It is active sites of many enzymes and plays an important role in various cellular and biological functions including ATP production and DNA synthesis. However, as a redox element, iron promotes free radical generation and lipid peroxidation, causing oxidative damage and cell death. Iron-mediated oxidation is a central player in ferroptosis, a type of cell death process that is different from apoptosis and necrosis. Thus, iron metabolism and homeostasis are sophisticatedly regulated. There has been exciting progress in understanding iron metabolism and regulation since hepcidin was recognized as the central regulator of iron homeostasis. Hepcidin mainly regulates the iron export function of the ferrous iron permease, ferroportin, which is the only known iron exporter expressed by mammalian cells. Particularly, epigenetic regulation has been a recent focus on iron homeostasis. Epigenetic phenomena have been demonstrated to modulate key proteins including hepcidin in iron metabolism. Here, we review the rapid progress in recent years in understanding molecular mechanisms of iron homeostasis with a focus on epigenetic regulation of hepcidin, ferritin, and ferroptosis. Interactions between methionine oxidation and iron is also discussed. Furthermore, many studies have suggested that the severity of neuronal damage after stroke is proportional to the magnitude of brain iron accumulation. Recent discoveries regarding iron metabolism in stroke is briefly discussed. Understanding the underlying mechanism in iron regulation could provide insight into the treatment of various intractable diseases including stroke.Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in disastrous human and economic costs, mainly due to the initial lack of specific treatments.
