Sir, Permit me to acquaint you that Mr. Putnam the person appointed Register of Probate for the County of Washington has neglected to qualify himself & declines accepting the office. It is important the office should be filled. I beg leave to recommend Mr Aaron L Raymond of Machias as a gentleman well qualified to discharge the duties of the office & think his appointment would be satisfactory.
