Mr. Counseller Emerson has a darling [sic?] object in in view in the appointment of a sheriff for Penobscot county. He strongly wishes for General Trofton. He is I suspect prepared to convince the Gov. & counsel that some rumours against Trofton are unfounded. Such, as that he is altogether broken down & unable to procure sureties should he be appointed.
Mr. Emerson is a man of few words & it is difficult
