On Monday the second day of September A.D. 1816 being the day of the meeting for the choice of Delegates to the Convention to be assembled on the last Monday of September A.D. 1816 at the Meeting house near the College in Brunswick, the inhabitants of the town of Alna qualified to vote for Senators, in open town meeting summoned also for this purpose and legally notified gave in their written votes on the question. "Is it expedient that the District of Maine shall be separated from Massachusetts and become an independent State upon the terms and conditions provided in an Act entitled an Act concerning the separation of the District of Maine from Massachusetts proper, and forming the same into a separate and independent State." Which votes being in open town meeting received sorted counted and declared by the Selectmen of said town were as follows

For such separation twenty two votes Against such separation sixty five votes
