[Penciled at top of page:] Hill
Boston 12th Feb 1813
Dear Sir,
You have had an acct of the Proceedings of the Republicans in Convention from your Friend Dr Porter - there was a great degree of unanimity in yournomination & I hope you will not decline - Mr Varnum was brought forward 4 years ago by yourself & others including myself this leads me to hope you will not object to him; there is not so good a prospect of success as I would wish, but if you acquiesce so as to be a candidate your Friends will become more attached & we shall make a handsome stand at least & let our opponents know that they cannot hold the reins
Yours respectfully Asa [?] Hill
Hon Wm King
