1094 By Mr. Butler Q. Did you ever hear the word churning over there before this investigation? A. Yes I heard the word when I first came there. I have not heard it of late, till I heard it used here. Q. What time did you go there? A. 1876 I think Q. How many blankets are put on a filthy or destructive patient? A. Two or three Q. Have you ever seen any patients abused there? A. No, I have heard of cases Q. What do you call abuse? A. Kicking, striking, and choking Q. Did you ever abuse a patient by striking, kicking, or any of those ways? A. I kicked a patient once, that was the case for which I was discharged. Q. Do you remember why you kicked him? A. Because he caught me by the throat and I could not get away from him. I think I hit him in the hip. Q. Did he let go of you then? A. Dr. Harlow saw him and hollered and the patient let me go. Q. Did you not along with another attendant severely abuse aa patient by the name of Thomas Crane in the middle second ? A. I did not.
