1194 A. I did Q. What were your opportunities for observation while you were a member of the visiting committee? A. I think during the two years I was a member of that committee I visited the institution once every month with perhaps one exception. I made it a point to visit at least once a month. I made other visits, our visits were intended to be unexpected. Q. Had no stated of times going? A. No only as by arrangement between members of the committee. Q. Did you notify officers of the asylum when you were coming? A. As a rule never, I think upon one or two occasions I did telegraph them I would be there in order that they might meet me. Q. Who served with you on that committee, A. Chas Buffum, of Orono, and Mr. Quimly the first year, and Jeremiah Mason, and Mr. Quimly the second. Q. Did you usually go together? A. We have all been there together, Mr Quimly and used to frequently visit together and occasionally alone. Q. Did you ever have occasion to go to the asylum in the night? A. I have. Q.
