1218 Q. Whenever any complaints have been made to you either by letter or word of mouth have you always taken pains to investigate them and ascertain the truth? A. I think so Q. What is your view as to the vigilance and care which is exercised by the superintendent over the attendants to see that they perform their duties? A. I think he knows what the attendants are doing and holds them up to a pretty good line of duty. Q. Have you observed whether the attendants feel as though they are being held up pretty sharpley or not? A. I think generally they do, I have heard something of that kind not much. By Mr Hall Q. How many times have you been over? A. 20 times Q. When you went over how much time did you spend in and among the wards with the patients? A. We generally leave before here after dinner about 2 o'clock, get over there by half past 2 and at this season of the year stop until they light up, till half past 5 or 6. Q. Have you had any experience in the management of hospitals before that. A. Never Q. You were asked if it seemed possible to manage
