I am informed that Col. Ames of the 20th Regt has been promoted -- If so I trust that the necessary promotions in the Regt will be made in regular order. I have formed a very high opinion of Lt. Col. Chamberlain, and Maj' Gilmore has done excellent service and is deservedly popular in the Regt.
