I must trouble
you again about my old friend
Alonzo K. Mirrick of the 2d Maine;
and enclose a petition which tells
its own story. I fear, however, it
asks you to do what cannot be
done, as I understand, without
 pretending to know much about the
matter that you can commission
privates in the old regiments
now in the service, and then transfer 
them to the new, but as to this
it is quite another thing. However, I
