I presume there were other boxes. The clothing and provisions such as flour were taken by the Quartermaster's department. I presume that all the property on the island will be as we have received orders not to pillage any more -- Some have gone into houses and taken most anything they could by their hands too. I have a newspaper or two, one of which I think I will send home -- I took a copy of the North American review and one of the Quarterly Reviews -- We lay last night and the night before with no shelter but the starry decked heavens But tonight we have go our tents -- the same tents that we had at Augusta -- We left them at Long Island and have not [inserted] seen them since till now -- We have just been to supper which consisted of fried [inserted] pork steak, fried liver, sweet potatoes and hard bread -- Tomorrow we intend to have a chicken Stew -- We have got a good Shanghai on the spot and plenty of corn grows near by wherewith to pud, the boys are to have their breakfast on goat's meat. They enjoy these things hugely -- One of our boys was out with a party of New York men who killed 14 sheep.

It is quite warm fine yet and once in a while I see a Mosquito, but I think it is going to be pretty healthy. The Rebels fought with desperation and were kept at the guns by bayonet but the chivalry of S.C. had to run before the despised Yankees -- They have left the Island entirely -- and have also deserted a large trow 18 miles above here and left all their prospects to their enemies. We had a letter from Annapolis. The boys left on doing well -- Noah got letter  today which I shall forward -- I received a letter from
