5th A fair morning. Rainy at night. We started to march but the order was countermanded and we went back. I was detaled and went on picket. Heavy picket fireing. An other fight on the left in the evening.

6th Cloudy in the morning. The enemy tried to drive us out of our brestworks by advancing on a squad on and of the outposts. They got within four rods of the post but could not stand the pressure and had to fall back in confusion. They lost one man killed, shot in the head. He lived three house and died. He belonged to the 12th Ga regt They did not try it again. On the P.M. an other reb was wounded and went off groaning. We was relieved at sunset and joined the regt
