Sedgwick Sept. 24th 1862 Honored Sir The friends of Alonzo K. Myrick, Co B 2nd Maine Regt. M. V. M. are making some effort to have him appointed drill officer of the Company of volunteers recently organized at Camp Pope under the command of Capt R.B. Bickford, and having been acquainted with him from childhood and knowing with what alacrity he answers the early call for volunteers, leaving a lucrative business to join in that almost now decimated band the Maine Second. I feel as many others do that any promotion of as meritorious a private as Mr. M would be very gratifying to a large portion of this community. I am not aware of the precise position requested, but feel that he will honorably sustain himself in any place
