Bangor August 4th 1862

Adjt Genl. Hodsdon

Hon Sir

I take this liberty to address you concerning my brother Lieut S.B. Field of Company I 2nd Maine Regt. Who is now in the Hospital at Harrisons Landing He writes us he has been sick of a fever and is now very feeble. Would like to get leave of absence until he shall have regained his health sufficiently to do military duty. Can you assist him to get a furlough? If so I pray that you may do so. I very much fear that he is dieing there

Please excuse the liberty I take in troubling you

Yours Respectfully Miss P.B. Field
