Hope July 20 1863
Sir
I wish to inquire again for Robert T Athearn of Co. E. Second Regt Maine Vols.
By your favor of the 27 April he is "reported in monthly returns of Jan Feb and March as "absent sick in hospital"
The name of hospital is not given or its location He was wounded at the battle of Gaines Hill 27 June 1862--taken prisoner--paroled and went into Hospital. We dont know the name of Hospital or where it was. We have but little doubt that he died soon after the 27 June 1862. but dont know where or when. It must be if he died in Hospital the Surgeon was remis in duty in not reporting to his Col. or the Adjt. Gen. or somewhere. that the soldier's friends might know within a year or more what has become of the soldier.
Yours respectfully Henry Hobbs
John L. Hodsdon, Adjt Gen.
