Dear Sir I learn that their is to be another Regt to be raised in Maine, if agreable to your wishes I would like the appointment as Maj. of the new Regt. I think that I am now qualified for the Position with what experience I have had in the field and for Bravery. I will refer you to Gen Martindale and Col Roberts as tested at the Battle near Hanover Court House June 27th 1862
