I desire to submit the name of Sergeant Joseph Chamberlain to you for a commission in the 16 Regt--Mr Chamberlain was among the first to enlist in the 2nd Regt leaving a lucrative business for the pay of a private soldier from a sense of duty All agree in saying that he has done his whole duty from that time to this; that he is a brave, hardy, intelligent and virtuous young man.

Our people are unanimously of the opinion that he deserves promotion Let the brave private feel that they are not forgotten, and they will do deeds that will be held in everlasting remembrance
