Governor Washburn
Sir Allow me to remind you of my willingness expressed many months ago to remain in my present position until my Regt had passed through another battle After waiting seven long months, the day appears close at hand and I am desirous of having my successor on the field so that the boys may receive proper care after my departure.
I have inferred from the past that the State does not desire a further continuance of my services and consequently have offered them elsewhere. I will also state that the Examining Board have accepted and recommended me for a much higher position.
