Dear sir
In behalf of several friends of Byron C. Gilmore a Sergeant in Co. G of the Second Maine Regt I include the within certificates of recommendation directed to the Governor. I send them to you for the Gov. at the suggestion of Vice Pres. Hamlin.
I have stated in one of the included certificates what I know of Gilmore-- Col. Varney & Capt. Getchell also highly recommend him in their certificate. I think young Gilmore is highly deserving of an early & a good appointment.
