This is the third superintendent I have been under, and I know some thing about the nature of them. A little while ago the matter of my discharge came up, and I went before the Governor and Council. I am not stating here any thing that I haven't stated before the Governor and Council. I didn't think I could wait and appear before a committee of the legislature without first doing all that I had the power to do with the present affairs. The Governor and Council have something to do with the affairs. The steward and treasurer holds his office at the will of the Governor and Council. The trustees haven't a thing to do with that. The governor & Council can turn them out when they have a mind to. They hold their power subject to the will of the Governor & Council, as the under officers hold theirs at the will of the trustees. I knew at the time that Mr. Wakefield had resigned, and I had heard from a member of the Council- Mr.
