[page 224] The question of the admission of hearsay ^as testimony was discussed. Dr. Eaton: I move that the witness be allowed to answer the question. And I will make the same motion everytime such a case as that comes up. The Chairman: put the motion and it was voted down. Dr. Butler: Will the Chairman please state how that motion finds us in his judgement. Mr. Pettangall: It seems to me unnecessary ^ for me to state it. I dont wish anybody to be governed by what I say; but in my judgement it decides that this Committee objects to hearing hearsay testimony on either side. By Dr. Butler: Q. Do you remember the case of a patient by the name of Hill? A. Yes, sir. Q. What was his character: peaceable or violent? A. He was not a very violent patient. Some times the attendants had trouble with him and had to put the straps onto him. Q. Did you ever see any violence used towards him? A. One morning ^I was in the ^middle dining
