Q. Are not the officers, such as the treasurer
and his clerk, employed by the trustees and not
by the superintendent? A. The treasurer is not
employed by the superintendent, no, sir
Q. Are there under him, his clerk,
employed by the-? A. By the trustees.
Q. Do you remember who was clerk there
before the present? A. I think Mr. Chadwick
preceded the present
Q. Was Mr. Chadwick there before the present one?
A. Yes, I think so.
Q. Who discharged the nurse? A. He was discharged
by the board of trustees.
Q. Why was he discharged? A.I dont
know as I can tell you any further
than it was thought best for the interest
of the hospital that he should be discharged
Q. Do you or not know whether he had
been a satisfactory clerk to the steward
and treasurer? A. I should say he was, mainly.
Q. Do you or not know whether, speaking
