as in Europe was made to Congress by the Secretary of State of the United States toward the close of the last session. A copy of this report will be furnished you by the Treas-urer. As Congress under the Constitution of the United States have the power "to fix the Standard of weights and measures" and as the Secretarys report is now before that body the Legislature may perhaps deem it expe-dient — for the Treasurer to suspend any further proceedings requiring the expenditure of money at least for the present. It is not apprehended that any considerable inconvenience will result from a short delay, inasmuch as it is understood that the several Counties are furnished with beams, weights + measures proved by the standard of the parent state.
