[Report on petitions] Mr. Buxton from the Committee on Parishes and other Religious Societies – and Ministerial and School lands – reported that John W. Mellen & als. have leave to bring in a Bill –

also that Jerry Burgin and others Selectmen of Eastport cause a copy of their petition and order thereon to be served on the town clerk of Lubec, and posted in some public place in said town thirty days before the first wednesday of the next Legislature to the end any persons interested may then appear and shew[show] cause if any they have, why the prayer of said petition should not be granted.

Which reports were severally read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence – came up concurred.

[Taxing On motion by Mr. Ripley, Ordered that the Committee on the Militia be instructed to enquire[inquire] into the expediency of taxing the members of any religious sect or denomination in this State, exempted by law from the performance of military duty – for the purpose of creating a fund for the payment of pensions to wounded or invalid officers and solders, their widows and orphans, with leave to report by Bill or otherwise –
