A Proclamation: [line underlined]

Whereas the Delegates of the People of Maine, assembled in Convention at Portland, by adjournment on the fifth day of January last, Resolved, "That after the fifteenth day of March, then next, on condition that the proposed State of Maine shall have been admitted into the Union, the President be requested to issue his Proclamation to the People of the State of Maine, making known such admission and that the Constitution proposed by the Convention and adopted by the People, is the Constitution and Frame of Government for the State".

Now, therefore, I William King, President of the Convention aforesaid, do, by these presents[?], make known, that on the third day of March, instant, the State of Maine, was, by an act of the Congress of the United States of America, admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the original States, from and after the fifteenth day of March instant, and that the Constitution prepared by said Convention, and submitted by them to the People, was adopted by the People, and is now the Constitution and Frame of Government of the State of Maine of all which the citizens of said State will take notice and govern themselves accordingly.

Done at Portland, this sixteenth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty; and of the Independence of the United states, the forty fourth.
