From the return it will appear that this State has not yet received from the parent State any part of the Ordnance[Ordinance] and military stores, secured to us by the Act of separation. It is expected that the Commissioners appointed by the two States to divide the joint property, will in the course of the ensuing season effect such a division of the personal property, as will enable us to receive a just proportion of the Military Stores. From a schedule furnished from the Quarter master General's department, it appears that the value of all the ordnance[ordinance] and military stores, subject to a division under the Act of separation is estimated at two hundred and eleven thousand three hundred and forty six dollars; of which our portion will be seventy thousand four hundred and forty eight dollars. - This estimate does not include the arms furnished by the United States, of which we are alike entitled to a share, in proportion to the returns of the Militia, according to which the said arms have been received from the United States. With this share we shall probably be furnished in the course of the ensuing season.

[Message from Governor respecting the Militia and Military Stores &c. undivided with the State of Massachusetts] The following message from the Governor was laid on the table by the Secretary of State.

"To the Senate and House of Representatives -

The Adjutant General having furnished me with an "Abstract of the annual return of the Militia, and of the Arms and accoutrements and ammunition; I have directed the same to be laid before the Legislature for their information.

From the return it will appear that this State has not yet received from the parent State any part of the Ordnance and military stores, secured to us by the Act of separation. It is expected that the Commissioners appointed by the two States to divide the joint property, will in the course of the ensuing season effect such a division of the personal property, as will enable us to receive a just proportion of the Military Stores. From a schedule furnished from the Quarter master General's department, it appears that the value of all the ordnance and military stores, subject to a division under the Act of separation is estimated at two hundred and eleven thousand three hundred and forty six dollars; of which our portion will be seventy thousand four hundred and forty eight dollars. - This estimate does not include the arms furnished by the United States, of which we are alike entitled to a share, in proportion to the returns of the Militia, according to which the said arms have been received from the United States. With this share we shall probably be furnished in the course of the ensuing season.

The Congress of the United States having the power "to provide for organizing and disciplining the Militia" and having recently by law prescribed the discipline to be observed throughout all the States, the attention of the Legislature will necessarily be directed to the manner in which a knowledge of this disci-
