In our opinion he would prove one of the finest officers in the Service and be an honor to this town and this county- No town has done more than Brewer in support of the war or in support of the present state and national Governments. We have not asked much of the Executive or received much either from the state or national Government, nor do we mean to complain of any action you deem necessary to advance the public interest; but we assure you that it would be most gratifying to us if you would appoint Mr Washburn to that place
