enough if there had not been so many distinguished [underlined] citizens of Maine visiting the Camp continually telling them, they were not obliged to do this and do that & all that sort of thing.
One Gentleman I believe
took the responsibility of telegraphing you to send on some one to look after the interest of the Regiment. I don't thank the gentlemen for his interference & his action was wholly uncalled for.
In a military point of view,
I am sensible of my inexperience, but in other aspects I consider myself, with the assistance of my Staff, amply competent to look after the interests of this Regiment
The General Gov't has done everything
for us that we could reasonably expect. It is true we have had
