Petition of China Academy for pecuniary aid, was read and referred to the committee on Literature and Literary Institutions. Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of the Assessors of Plan. No 5 to be refunded certain taxes paid by mistake, was read & referred tot the committee on Finance.

On motion of Mr Shaw, Ordered, that Messrs Shaw of Northport, Benson of China, and Williams of Augusta be a committee to consider the expediency of providing by law that no commission of any civil officer whereon a duty is required by law to be paid, shall be delivered until the duty thereon is paid to the County Treasurer wherein the person resides & a certificate thereof shall be deposited in the office of the Secretary of State &. read & passed.

Petition of Martin Sidelinger & als that a certain portion of Waldoboro may be annexed to Union - of Buxton to be annexed to County of Cumberland - taken from last years files of the Senate, referred in Senate to the Committee on the Incorporation of towns, came down for concurrence and the House concurred.

Petition of Albany for leave to sell ministerial & school lands, taken from last years files of the Senate, referred in Senate to the Committee on the incorporation of Parishes &c came down for concurrence, and the House concurred.

An order came from the Senate for concurrence appointing Messrs Fairbanks & Holland with such as the House may join a committee to take into consideration the Salaries now allowed by law to Judges of Probate and report such alterations as they may deem expedient - and the House concurred and Messrs Goodenow of Alfred, Eaton of Bowdoin & Snow of Frankfort were joined.
