Mr. Holmes of the House from the joint committee appointed to wait upon the Governor elect, and notify him of his election & reported that they had performed the service assigned them, and that he was pleased to say he would attend forthwith in the Representatives Chamber and take and subscribe the oaths required by the constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of the duties of his office, and that he would at the same time make his communication to the Legislature.

A message was received from the Senate by Mr. Hutchinson their Secretary, proposing a convention forthwith in the Representatives Chamber for the purpose of qualifying the Governor elect - and the House concurred and the Clerk was requested to acquaint the Senate forthwith.

Accordingly the two branches met in convention in the Representatives Chamber, when Enoch Lincoln, Governor elect, attended by the Council, Secretary and Treasurer & preceeded by the Sheriff of Cumberland came in, and took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon a discharge of the duties of his office - and the Secretary of State made proclamation accordingly - The Governor then delivered his speech which is contained in the appendix page 261 ] The Governor then withdrew. together with those who attended him on his induction to office. The Senators also withdrew

An order came from the Senate for concurrence directing the Secretary of State to notify Andrew Witham of Blue hill in the District of Hancock and Obadiah Hilll of West Machias in the District of Washington, that they have this day severally been elected Senators by a Convention
