Resolve establishing the seat of Government, was taken up agreeably to assignment - Mr Adams moved to strike out all the words after the word Resolved[underlined]. and substitute instead thereof the words "That Portland in the Country of Cumberland be the place at which the next Legislature shall meet and hold its session."[all underlined] Mr Ames called for a division of the question - and the Chair put the question on striking out - and the question was lost 51 pro 69 con. Mr Adams then moved to strike out the word thirty[underlined], in the first resolve wherever the same occurs - and the motion prevailed. [Yeas and nays were taken Yeas 76[underlined] nays 60[underlined][See appendix page 218]. Mr Adams then moved to fill the blanks with forty[underlined], and the motion was lost 41 pro 45 con. Mr Mitchell of Portland then moved to fill the blank, with thirty five[underlined] and before the question was taken the House adjourned until half past two oclock this afternoon -

An order came from the Senate for concurrence, directing that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of repealing that part of the first section of an act entitled, "An Act establishing & regulating the fees of the several officers and other persons therein mentioned" passed 20 March 1821 which
