At the request of Henry Black a Member of Co G. 2nd Maine Reg. who was taken prisoner at Bull Run and released on parole by the rebels at Salisbury N.C. paid off and discharged at Augusta in June by paymaster. I write you for information , he has heard that he is still liable on his former enlistment and would be dealt with as a deserter, unless he reported himself to you, that his discharge was revoked ( ? ) is it so? Will you please inform me by return of mail, Mr. Black is well, was elected ( ? ) ( ? ) in the militia in this place a few days since, but if he is to be held on his former enlistment
