[order concerning the appointment of members] Williams of Augusta and Mowry of Lubec with such as the Senate may join be a committee to inquire into the expediency of providing by law that no member of the Legislature or of the Council during the term for which he shall have been elected, shall receive or be appointed to any appointment or situation of profit under this State which shall have been created or the emoluments of which increased during such term. The Senate concurred and Messrs. Kingsbury and Ricker were joined.
[Resolve passed to be engrossed] Mr. Kingsbury from the committee on the Judiciary who had under consideration the petition of Jonathan Matthews & al Selectmen of Monson reported Resolve on the petition of the town of Monson and the same was read and passed to be engrossed. [Message from the Governor] The Secretary of State came in and laid upon the table a written message from the Governor in reply to the order of the Senate of the 7th instant, relative to proceedings under the Resolve of February 17th 1824 authorizing the Governor to negotiate with the Penobscot Indians for the transfer of their Islands.
