+ | 1st Because there is contained in said Resolve an allowance of Twenty five dollars in favor of James Thomas for an alleged compensation for performing the duties of Adjutant of the second Regiment, second Brigade & first division of the Militia of this State for the year 1828 which in the opinion of the undersigned is illegal, & improper. | ||

The following protest was presented to the House by Gamaliel E Smith a member thereof with a request that it might be entered at length upon the Journals, and thereupon it was ordered to be entered upon the Journal of this House accordingly - viz "The undersigned a member of the House of Representatives of this State hereby protests against the passage of a Resolve, for the payment of Accounts against the State, for the following reasons viz, 1st Because there is contained in said Resolve an allowance of Twenty five dollars in favor of James Thomas for an alleged compensation for performing the duties of Adjutant of the second Regiment, second Brigade & first division of the Militia of this State for the year 1828 which in the opinion of the undersigned is illegal, & improper. 2nd Because there is contained in said Resolve an allowance of Ten dollars in favor of James Wadleigh as Quarter Master for the aforesaid Regiment for the same year, founded upon the same illegality & impropriety Gamaliel E.
