Bangor Augt 1st 1862 Hon. I Washburn Jr Dear Sir Mr. Edwin B Patten of this city is very desirous of some place in the army and would prefer the position of Quarter Master, I have know Mr. Patten for a long time and ( ? ) pleasure in stating that from such ( ? ) and from the testimony of others who are better judges than myself. I have no doubt he is well qualified for such a potion, and it would be gratifying to me as well as to ( ? ) them ( ? ) if he could receive such an appointment. ( ? ) ( ? ) Very Truly S.B. Morison
