I write you at this time to solicit at your hands a favor in the appointment of my son, William H.H. Hasey to the post of first or second Lieut in one of the companies of the 18th Reg now being organized in this city. He is now a non-commissioned officer in Co I second Maine Regt now at the seat of war. Col Roberts will recommend him as every way qualified and worthy - Col Chaplin of the 18th desires his appointment , knowing him intimately, and if desired by you I will forward to you their written recommendations and certificates of qualifications. He has been in all the battles with the glorious 2d Maine and comes out with the endorsement of his officers as possessing the qualities which
