On motion of Mr Bradbury of Hollis Ordered that the Senate be requested to take from their files and send to this House the Petition of Pelatiah McDonald praying title to land assigned him - sent up
 
  
On motion of Mr Dummer of Hallowell Ordered that the Committee on Literary Institutions be instructed to inquire into the expediency of establishing by law a superintendent of the public town schools of the State or to inquire if any & if so what improvements in school books can be introduced also whether the respective school committees of towns should not be required by law to take an oath of office - sent up for concurrence

Resolve making it the duty of the Secretary of the Senate or Clerk of the House respectively hereafter to make out a list of the business referred to the next Legislature within four days after the commencement of the session to which such business is referred was read 1st & 2nd time & passed to be engrossed sent up for concurrence

A message was received from the Senate proposing a Convention of both Branches forthwith in the Representatives Chamber for the purpose of administering to Isaac Lane, Hezekiah Prince, Joseph Howard & Allen H Cobb Councillors elect the necessary oaths of office and agreeably to assignment the two Houses assembled in Convention in the Representatives Chamber when the said Councillors Elect severally look & subscribed the oaths prescribed by law to qualify them to enter upon the discharge of the duties of their office
