� The Regiment is in good health + spirits + has won the high respect + esteem of those whose opinion is of value in the Army.

Col. Gilmore + Major Spear are performing their duty with great faithfulness + credit. I learn that our conscripts are to be here by the 25th inst. + I trust we can manage them with enough skill + prudence to save them from desertion + its inevitable consequence -- shooting. I dont want any of that business with Maine men. I obtained the release of those men of the 2d Maine against whom charges had been preferred for mutiny, + they are on duty, + are good soldiers.
