A Committee consisting of Messrs. Woodman of Buxton Dunlap of Brunswick True of Montville Hastings of Robbinston and Eastman of Exeter  was appointed to receive sort and count the votes for a Speaker - and on counting the same it appeared that the whole number of votes given in was one Hundred and seventy four - necessary to a choice Eighty Eight - Nathan Clifford had one hundred and twenty two - Reuel Washburn had forty seven scattering five and Nathan Clifford Esq of Newfield was declared elected.
 
  
Mr. Jarvis of Ellsworth was charged with a message to the Governor and Council informing them of the organization of the House by the election of Nathan Clifford Speaker and Asaph R. Nichols Clerk.
