Mother I got your letter to- day and was glad to hear from you and to hear that you are wel I am wel and smart we ["we" has been scratched out] our Regt was in the fight twenty fore hours my right- hand man was shot through the head our Regt Covered the Retreat Farther what do you think of this damd war I think its Abought time them to dry up we had one kild and two wouded in our Co I give the rebs ten [unknown] youou wated to know if I had that and gloves I got [?] from only two pare of stockings I wish you send me a box with a pole of butter..no
