221 Speaker then addressed the Chair as follows Gentlemen of the House of Representatives
For the vote of thanks, you have been pleased to pass, accept my warmest acknowledgements of gratitude. When I took upon myself the responsibilities of the Chair, I was led to distrust my own qualifications, and I accepted the station with a trembling diffidence. In the discharge of official duty I have had no individual anticipates to gratify - I have endeavored to pursue an upright and honest course - how far I have succeeded it is for you to determine. For the order and decorum which has marked the conduct of members- for the ready aid and kind support they have so freely extended to me, during the time I have presided over their deliberations, I beg them to accept my cordial thanks - May the remaining part of your session be pleasant to yourselves and acceptable to your constituents. May the results of all your legislative acts, be beneficial to our State, and upon your final separation, at the close of this session may you return to your families and your friends in health and safety bearing with you the consciousness that you have endeavored to perform your public duties in such a manner as to promote the public prosperity. In leaving this station I quit an assembly of men, who are justly entitled to my highest respect and confidence. I bid adieu to many with whom I have long been united, by the ties of personal friendship, Wherever I may be placed in future life rely upon it, Gentlemen you will individually have my best wishes for your health and happiness I now resign my seat in the House of Representatives
The Speaker then Withdrew.
