Governor Washburn Sir

Permit me to request and urge you as soon as opportunity offers to promote Leonard D Carver of Com. D one of volunteers from Lagrange Second Regiment of ME to some office as Lieutenant, I had ample opportunity of acquaintance with him before he enlisted and know him to be a person honest--talented, patriotic of command ing appearance--rather tall and more than usual military turn I have been surprised in his not being promoted long ago as consider him as deserving as an office to say the least as any one from Lagrange. I understand that Capt Sampson of Milo to the present care of his company will recommend him I hope you will be disposed to find occasion to promote him

Samuel Dinsmore Wm Barton

Our quota for Medford is 4 If 2 volunteer, will a draft of 2 satisfy you?

Would a sum of $50.00 for each 4 satisfy the government?
