In behalf of several friends of Byron C. Gilmore a sergeant in Co. G of the Second Maine Regt I include the within certificates of recommendation directed to the Governor. I send them to you for the Gov. at the suggestion of Vice Prest. Hamlin.

I have stated in one of the included certificates what I know of Gilmore-- Col. Varney + Capt. Getchell also highly recommend him in their certificate. I think young Gilmore is highly deserving of an early + a good appointment
