Although I am personally unknown to you, yet I take the liberty of writing to request an appointment as Captain in one of the new Maine Regts. I am 1st Lieut of Co I 2nd Maine have been in command of the Co since May 1st 1862 and have been the only officer in the Co for duty since June 9th as Capt Farnsey & Lieut Forbes are in Maine on recruiting service. I was in command of the Co at the battles of Hanover CH, Gaines Mills & Malvern Hills. As to my ability to command a co I respectfully refer you to Gen Jameson. Col. Chaplin, Lieut Col Tilden, Maj. Farnham and Capts Wilson + Garnsey all of whom are now in Maine also to Col Roberts Lieut Col Varney Maj Sargent and all the line officers of the
