By Mr. Morrill:- Q. What were your opportunities for knowing when the drouth [drought] did commence? A. I had to lug water to my wards, the same as the rest of the attendants. But when the drouth [drought] commenced, or our water failed up, I could not tell. Q. What floor were you on? A. I was on the upper floor in the building built for a chapel. Only two wards in that building, and one I attended. Q. There was a scarcity? A. Yes, sir. Q. But you don't recollect? A. I don't recollect when it commenced.
