Dear Zadoc,

We rec'd your interesting letters by your uncle Lucius. You are a good boy to write so much. We will not tax you to write, except when you can do it with convenience + pleasure--and we will write you all the same. I am pleased with the good penmanship, the ease + and frankness of your letters. I am not surprised that you are a little homesick. I expected it. I rejoice that your health [underlined] is good, + that you get along well at the desk.

As you go into the store , on [underlined] trial [underlined], if you succeed well + can earn it, I have no doubt. J. N. Denison Co. will pay you as much, the first year, as Geo. offered. You can talk with Addison about it + I will mention it to Denison when I go to Boston. It is, however, more important for your future [underlined] interest to acquire, by thorough practice, the qualification + reputation for business than a 100 dolls. more or less at first. It appears to me that you had better stay where you are till you have had sufficient trial, whether they will pay you $100 or $200. If it shall not be as well for your health [underlined] to write, I would not have you stay at the desk, your health being always of paramount value. You will soon ascertain how it is, - what you are fit for, + what is fit for you [underlined].
