from the 2nd Maine Regt. This movement in his behalf has not originated with me, but with a few of the above named gentlemen, who, to use their own words have said it is a shame to have such a capable young man serving in the ranks, and being so unjustly treated.
Richard wrote in the county clerk's office for three years, under Mr. Weston. The Adj. Gen. may perhaps remember him in that capacity. It is a better fact that not one of the members of the Irish company in the 2nd Maine has received the least promotion. You cannot imagine the effect that an acknowledgment of the service of any one of the members of that company would have in the cause of enlisting among the Irishmen of Bangor.
Please answer to either Mr. Simpson or me what your Excellency is disposed to do in the matter.
